Consumers Could Get Lab Test Results Themselves Under New Proposed Rule

Under a new proposed rule being issued by the Department of Health and Human Services, patients anywhere in the country would be able to get their clinical test results directly from the lab.  The Clinical Laboratories Improvement Amendments, or CLIA rule, provides patients with another channel to get access to their own health care information.

Health Affairs blogger, Chris Fleming, referenced a blue button challenge sponsored by Markle and the Robert Woods Johnson Foundation, to show how applications might be developed to help consumers understand and make use of their information.
