In this essay, former Markle president Lloyd N. Morrisett commented on broadcast technology’s ability to promote political equality and support the rights of voters by creating greater access to candidate information. He wrote, “The historical development of presidential campaigns has now made broadcasting an essential means of reaching the voter. This comes at a time when new rights of voters are to be found not so much in greater access to polling places as in greater access to information about candidates.”
