Connecting individuals to meaningful work is a key challenge for governments according to the National Academy of Public Administration (NAPA)–which is why it was chosen as a topic for a recent episode of its Management Matters Podcast. Beth Cobert, Markle’s Acting President, joined Terry Gerton, President and CEO of NAPA, to discuss this important issue.
NAPA works to advance government practices by drawing on the knowledge and experience of its nearly 1,000 fellows—including former cabinet officers, members of congress, governors, mayors, and state legislators, non-profit and business executives, and others. As a NAPA fellow herself, Beth drew on her past experience as Acting Director of the Office of Personnel Management under President Obama and as the Deputy Director for Management at the Office of Management and Budget–as well as her knowledge of workforce issues, when she joined Terry for this podcast.
“The Markle Foundation started focusing on the issue of connecting workers to good jobs in an increasingly digital economy back in 2013, we saw this as a societal imperative. It’s an imperative that we allow access to economic mobility for individuals and it’s an imperative because without tapping into all of that talent, we as a country are not going to survive and thrive.”
