The Labor Day long weekend is a great time to enjoy Colorado’s beauty with family and friends. It’s also the right time to gain inspiration from two remarkable women, Frances Perkins and Emily Griffith, who committed themselves to helping the American worker.

Colorado is home to CareerWise, creating modern youth apprenticeships in fields like IT, financial services, advanced manufacturing, and healthcare. Employers and students love the program. We aim for 10 percent of Colorado high school students “learning by doing” every year through apprenticeships, as soon as we can get there.

Likewise, Colorado-based Skillful is inventing and powering a skills-based labor market for Coloradans. Imagine workers confident in their skills and empowered, at any time in their lives, to learn and demonstrate new skills, no matter how the economy evolves. Imagine educators empowered to foresee and teach in-demand skills, and businesses able to hire and promote based on demonstrated skills. Skillful has forged these foundations in Colorado.
