The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs has issued a challenge to technology vendors to install personal health information downloads for patients through a total of 25,000 different licensed clinical professionals. The prize: $25,000.
GovInfoSecurity.com reports that 300,000 veterans have used the VA’s Blue Button, enabling them to download parts of their medical information securely online. The new challenge is designed to promote the installation and use of the download capability by doctors outside of the VA.
The Blue Button concept calls for the use of a set of privacy and security policies building on the Markle Common Framework for Networked Health Information.
