In this essay, former Markle president Lloyd N. Morrisett examined the development and success of Sesame Street for lessons that could be applied in the development of new, successful mass communications projects. Morrisett wrote, “The story of Sesame Street has been well told in several studies, but there is still reason, I think, to ask whether conclusions drawn from the Sesame Street experience can provide guidance for others who wish to turn the power of mass communications to new social goals. While factors of timing and sheer luck account for much of the success of Sesame Street, there seem to be a few lesson that have broad applicability.”
