Sidney Drell is Professor and Deputy Director, Emeritus at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center (SLAC) at Stanford University, where for the past four decades he has focused his work on theoretical physics, elementary particle physics, and quantum theory along with national security and arms control. He is also a Senior Fellow at the Hoover Institution. In 1956, he joined the Stanford faculty and has been a professor at SLAC since 1963. He served as Co-Director of the Center for International Security and Arms Control at Stanford from 1983 to 1989. Among his many positions of service, he was a Member of the President’s Foreign Intelligence Advisory Board from 1993 to 2001.
Drell has been a Member of the Markle Task Force since its inception in 2002. He has contributed to the following reports produced by the Task Force: Protecting America’s Freedom in the Information Age in 2002, Creating a Trusted Network for Homeland Security in 2003, Implementing a Trusted Information Sharing Environment in 2006, Mobilizing Information to Prevent Terrorism in 2006, and Nation at Risk in 2009.
