Sharon Butler is the Chief Financial and Administrative Officer of the Markle Foundation and its Board Treasurer. In this role, she leads the financial management and HR teams, other administrative functions, and Markle’s enterprise processes and policies.
Prior to her current role, Butler was Finance and Accounting Director at Markle, where she led and managed the accounting team, the grants & contracts manager, supervised audit and financial statement preparation, managed day-to-day banking relationships, and investment/portfolio reporting. She also provided ad hoc analysis and support to the leadership team during budget and planning cycles, lease negotiations, program transitional planning, and across multiple HR topics.
Butler is a seasoned and strategic non-profit finance professional with proven ability to develop and execute on complex business requirements while successfully collaborating across multiple functions.
Prior to Markle, Butler served for 13 years as Controller at United Hospital Fund (UHF), managing assets of over $100M, monitoring cash flow, preparing reporting for Budgets, Audits and Operations, and leading process improvement, systems transitions, and process documentation efforts.
Her roles prior to UHF included serving as Controller at Partnership for a Drug-Free Kids, Senior Auditor at Condon, O’Meara, McGinty & Donnelly LLP, and Accountant at Wildlife Conservation Society.
Butler received a BS in Accounting (Magna Cum Laude), from Lehman College, and is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), a Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA), and a member of NYSSCPA and AICPA.
